2026 CIIF Observation: Industrial Edge AI Controller Selection Guide
At the 2026 Shanghai Industrial Fair, industrial edge AI moved from concept to productized deployment. Exhibitors shifted focus from cloud platforms to on-device inference, integrating NPUs into controllers so AI can close the loop at the device side. For manufacturers planning intelligent upgrades, choosing among the EA series, BL440, and BL450 is now a practical decision.
Selection Logic
Industrial edge AI controllers sit between traditional PLCs and general-purpose industrial PCs. They need industrial-grade reliability, rich field interfaces, and NPU compute for local AI inference. Key selection dimensions: NPU TOPS (model scale), industrial interfaces (Ethernet, RS485, CAN FD, digital IO), CPU-NPU collaboration, video codec capability, power/thermal design, and software ecosystem compatibility.
EA Series: Edge AI Computers for Standardized Inference
Four models with tiered compute from 67 to 157 TOPS.

All four ship with JetPack 6.2.2 (Ubuntu 22.04), supporting CUDA, TensorRT, YOLO models, lightweight LLMs, and multimodal VLMs. The EA series serves as an edge AI compute foundation—it does not directly handle PLC control.
BL440 / BL450: AI Edge Controllers with Integrated Industrial Control
The ARMxy series combines AI inference with industrial control in one device.
BL440 – Rockchip RK3576J, 4×A72 + 4×A53 + M0, 6 TOPS NPU. 8K@30 H.265 decode, 4K@60 H.264 encode. 3×Ethernet, 2×USB, multiple RS485, optional Wi-Fi/4G, HDMI. Linux-RT and RT-Thread. Best for medium compute, cost-sensitive scenarios.
BL450 – Rockchip RK3588, 4×A76 + 4×A55 + 3×M0, 6 TOPS NPU. Up to 128GB eMMC and 16GB LPDDR4X. 1–3 RJ-45 ports, HDMI 2.0, X/Y IO board expansion supporting PWM, pulse counting, analog IO, thermocouple/PT100. Best for higher compute density and richer IO.
